DC Comics artist Freddie E. Williams II posts a regular series of YouTube videos with tips about how to become a professional comic book artist. Williams is the author of The DC Comics Guide to Digitally Drawing Comics.
Williams is currently wrapping up his run as illustrator of JSA All-Stars from DC Comics. He is a Kansas City native who currently lives in the Missouri suburbs.
The green, scaly claws of Godzilla smashed Elite Comics in Overland Park Wednesday – at least on the exclusive variant cover of Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters #1.
The new comic book, published by IDW, has 80 cover versions, including one featuring Overland Park comics shop Elite Comic. That version is available exclusively from Elite, which is located at 11842 Quivera Road.
The comic book features Godzilla and other classic monsters like Mothra. According to IDW’s solicitation: “The King of the Monsters rises again, and for the first time in comics, he’s bringing lots of other beloved Toho monsters with him in one destructive saga”
The comic book is drawn by Kansas City convention regular Phil Hester and inked by Omaha resident Bruce McCorkindale.
Local comics creator Kevin Mellon has illustrated a story for Marvel Comics’ S.H.I.E.L.D. Infinity one-shot comic book. “This is my first Marvel work,” Mellon writes on his blog, “and I think it came out pretty dope.”
The 8-page story is written by Jonathan Hickman, currently one of Marvel’s most buzzworthy writers.
The one-shot comic book features multiple stories related to recent events in the Marvel universe. Marvel’s promotion for the book says, “Decode the miraculous designs of Leonardo Da Vinci. Devour the truths and reel with the lies of Isaac Newton. Puzzle at the perilous predictions of Nostradamus. Discover the Forever Machines of Nikola Tesla. Kevin Mellon is a Kansas City-area artist and writer whose previous work includes Gearhead, Thirteen Steps, and Comic Book Tattoo. His upcoming work includes Lovestruck, an original graphic written by Dennis Hopeless expected to be released this summer.
The final cut-off for retailers to pre-order S.H.I.E.L.D. Infinity is March 30th. Visit your local comic shop to reserve your copy. It is expected to arrive in comic shops April 13th.
